A Spotlight On Some of The Best Freestanding Tubs 2020:
Freestanding Tub Reviews:
WOODBRIDGE B-0015 Acrylic Freestanding Bathtub
For the first review on this list of the best freestanding tubs, we are going to be doing a review of a freestanding tub from a brand that you are going to see a lot on this list, which is WoodBridge. WoodBridge is one of the most prolific manufacturers of freestanding tubs and if you search up these kinds of tubs online, you will see them everywhere.
They do make fairly high-quality tubs that aren’t too pricey, so it is understandable why they have come to be so dominant. In this case, we are going to be reviewing a double slipper tub from them in the form of the WOODBRIDGE B-0015 Acrylic Freestanding Bathtub.
The first thing that we want to note about the WOODBRIDGE B-0015 Acrylic Freestanding Bathtub is something that you will come to see as a hallmark of WoodBridge tubs, which is their high-quality construction. This particular tub, like a lot of other freestanding tubs from WoodBridge, is made using acrylic.
As you will find out a lot later on in our buying guide, acrylic is a pretty good material to make freestanding tubs out of, since it offers a great mixture of toughness and weight. It is durable, but not too heavy.
To add even more protection and durability, WoodBridge coats their tubs in resin, which not only adds more protection, but which also helps to prevent water from degrading the material. Again, the added resin coating is a pretty common feature on most freestanding tubs.
The tub is also designed with decent insulation in mind. A big part of the appeal of freestanding tubs is the fact that they are great for relaxing. However, there is nothing relaxing about having to sit in cold water.
A nice part about the WOODBRIDGE B-0015 Acrylic Freestanding Bathtub is that if you heat up the water, the insulation will ensure that it stays hot for long enough for you to enjoy the bath.
Further adding to the enjoyment of the tub is the fact that this is a double slipper tub. What that means is that you can relax and lie back on either end of the tub (it is also good for couple’s because of this).
- Good insulation to keep water at desired temperature.
- Durable acrylic design.
- Resin coating for water resistance.
- Reasonably priced, given the quality of the tub.
- Double slipper tub.
- Drainage system is a bit flimsy for our liking.
Vanity Art Freestanding Acrylic Bathtub
The next freestanding tub that we want to go over as part of our best freestanding tubs list is the first non-WoodBridge tub that we are reviewing as part of this list. Despite not being from that prolific brand, it is still a very well-made tub that we have absolutely no issues recommending to you.
The Vanity Art Freestanding Acrylic Bathtub does share some things in common with the WoodBridge tubs that appear on this list (as you can see from the name), but it also brings some unique features to the table, which is why we wanted to include it on the list.
Let’s start off the review by talking about what is the same and what you will immediately recognize if you have read some of the other reviews on our best freestanding tubs list. First off, the bathtub is made from acrylic.
This is a material that you have seen popup quite a bit on this review list, it probably doesn’t come as too much of a surprise to you to see it again.
We have already started the benefits associated with using acrylic (and indeed, we will do so again in our buying guide later on), but to sum it up again, we want to remind you that acrylic is both very durable and light. The acrylic also does a good job of insulating the bathtub, which helps to keep heat inside the tub, which keeps the water heated for longer.
Something else that is really nice about the Vanity Art Freestanding Acrylic Bathtub is that this another one of those double slipper tubs that we talked about in an earlier review. Like all double slipper tubs, this tub lets you relax on either end of the tub and to put your feet up, which is a very nice bonus.
Our biggest issue with the Vanity Art Freestanding Acrylic Bathtub is its size. At 71 inches, the bathtub could certainly afford to be a bit larger. Those who are on the bigger side should be cautious when buying this bathtub for exactly that reason. However, if the size doesn’t bother you, then this is a great find to be sure.
- Double slipper tub for extra comfort.
- Great insulation to let you lounge in heated water for longer.
- Acrylic design is durable and light.
- Flexible drainage system.
- Could afford to be a bit larger.
WOODBRIDGE BTA1528/B-0028 Acrylic Freestanding Bathtub
For the next review on our best freestanding tubs list, we are going to be doing a review of the WOODBRIDGE BTA1528/B-0028 Acrylic Freestanding Bathtub. We said in an earlier review that we would be looking at a lot of tubs from WoodBridge as part of this review list, and this is a good example of that. This is another really high-quality tub from WoodBridge that, in our opinion, is easily deserving of its own separate review.
Much like the other WoodBridge tub that we reviewed, the WOODBRIDGE BTA1528/B-0028 Acrylic Freestanding Bathtub is a really well-made bathtub for a variety of different reasons. Much all WoodBridge tubs and most other high-end freestanding tubs, the BTA1528 is made using very high-quality acrylic. The acrylic forms a strong, but still very lightweight base. To help strengthen the acrylic, the tub has been supplemented with a resin and fiberglass coating.
The end result all of this is a bathtub that isn’t too heavy (which is really helpful when you are trying to install it), a bathtub that is surprisingly durable and strong, and a bathtub that does a good job of keeping heat in.
Performing upkeep on the tub is also surprisingly simple. The tub is resistant to both scratching and physical damage, as well as stains. So, you can go wild when it comes to cleaning. You don’t have to worry about using certain tools or cleaning products because they might damage the interior of the tub. It does end up making your life significantly easier when cleaning your bathroom.
One benefit of the WOODBRIDGE BTA1528/B-0028 Acrylic Freestanding Bathtub that is somewhat unique to this particular tub from them is the great drainage system. The system is really designed not to leak at all, and it holds up very well, which is extremely helpful. A good drainage system is not the most attractive part of a tub, but it is definitely something that one should always look for.
- Great drainage system that won’t leak.
- Strong acrylic material.
- Resin and fiberglass coating adds to the longevity of the tub.
- Anti-scratch and anti-leak surface.
- Keeps in heat very well.
- Not too good for relaxing.
The Tub Connection Cast Iron Slipper Tub
The next freestanding tub that we want to review as part of this list is somewhat unique. See, the The Tub Connection Cast Iron Slipper Tub is, as you can see clearly from the product name, the first cast iron tub that we are going to be reviewing on our best freestanding tubs list.
Cast iron isn’t quite the popular material that acrylic is, but there are plenty of tubs that use it. So, we wanted to make sure to include at least one cast iron option on our best of review list.
The The Tub Connection Cast Iron Slipper Tub is a fairly standard cast iron tub, which means a few different things. First off, it means that this is easily one of the most durable tubs on our list, if not the most durable.
Why? Well, cast iron is extremely tough (just think about cast iron cookware). The toughness of the material translates into a very durable bathtub. Secondly, it also means that this is an extremely heavy tub. Cast iron, simply put, is much heavier than acrylic. This does make setting up the tub a lot harder.
With a single rounded edge, you can really enjoy yourself with this tub. The Tub Connection Cast Iron Slipper Tub lets you sit back, relax, and put your feet up. In the end, isn’t that a big reason why you buy a freestanding tub in the first place?
- Let’s your relax very nicely.
- Extremely durable tub that should last for a while.
- Made of solid, scratch resistant cast iron.
- Extremely heavy tub.
Kingston Brass Aqua Eden VCTND6030NT5 Cast Iron Bathtub
For the final review on our best freestanding tubs list, we are going to be reviewing another cast iron tub in the form of the Kingston Brass Aqua Eden VCTND6030NT5 Cast Iron Bathtub. This is yet another fairly well-made, durable cast iron bathtub that we are sure many of you will love.
Like all cast iron tubs (both on this list and on the market as a whole), the Kingston Brass Aqua Eden VCTND6030NT5 Cast Iron Bathtub is extremely durable and extremely heavy. So, these are both important things to take into consideration when considering whether to give this tub a try. This is also a single dipper tub, which means that a single edge of the tub is raised so that you can lay back and put your feet up.
In terms of overall aesthetics, the Kingston Brass Aqua Eden VCTND6030NT5 Cast Iron Bathtub is a fairly good looking bathtub. It has a nice, smooth enamel design. The enamel design also has a functional purpose, as it makes the bathtub easier to clean and more resistant to things like scratching.
- Great enamel exterior.
- Durable, scratch resistant surface.
- Cast iron tub that can last a lifetime.
- Just a well-made tub that is easy to relax in.
- Like all cast iron tubs, it is hard to move.
Freestanding Tub Buying Guide
In this second part of our best freestanding tubs article, we are going to be moving away from reviews and instead will be focusing on what actually goes into picking out a good freestanding tub.
When compared to a lot of other items, one doesn’t typically buy bathtubs, so there is a good chance that most of you don’t really know much, if anything, about freestanding tubs.
This buying guide is going to focus on what you need to know when shopping for a bathtub. Thankfully, freestanding tubs are not particularly complicated, so learning what to look for isn’t too difficult.
Different Kinds Of Freestanding Tubs
As you may recall from our best freestanding tubs review list, there are many different kinds of freestanding tubs. The differences between the different kinds of freestanding tubs aren’t too substantial, but it is definitely worth noting. Broadly speaking, you can divide freestanding tubs up into both ended tubs and slipper tubs.
Ended tubs are some of the most common kinds of freestanding tubs and they are probably the most recognizable type. Ended tubs features rounded edges. Single ended tubs, have a single rounded edge and double ended tubs have two rounded edges. The rounded edges allow you to lounge when bathing, so it is a good idea to go for a double edged tub because this lets you relax at either end.
Slipper tubs have an elevated edge. Much like with ended tubs, they come in both single and double models. Single slipper tubs have a single elevated end while double slipper tubs have two. The purpose of the elevated end is to enable you to raise your feet, making these a great option for those who like relaxing in the bathtub for hours at a time.
While not really that common, we do have to mention soaking tubs. This is a type of freestanding tub that is a lot smaller than the other two that we have mentioned so far. They tend to be circular and opt for a much different experience than the other two types of freestanding tubs.
As the name pretty clearly implies, soaking tubs are just meant for you to sit and soak. Rather than encouraging laying, like most tubs, they tend to encourage sitting instead.
Freestanding Tub Materials
Another thing that you may remember from our best freestanding tubs review list is the fact that tubs come in a variety of different materials. Each material has its own benefits and drawbacks.
Easily the most common type of material to make freestanding tubs out of is acrylic. This is evident from the fact that acrylic tubs are the most common type of tub that appears on our best freestanding tubs review list. You may wonder why acrylic is so common, but the answer is actually quite simple.
Acrylic is both very light and surprisingly tough. So, not only are tubs made of acrylic surprisingly easy to transport and to install, but they will also last for quite a while as well. Sure, acrylic isn’t the absolute most durable material, but it does pretty well, especially give its other benefits.
Cast Iron Tubs
If, on the other hand, what you want is absolute durability, then the material that you want to go for is cast iron. There were a few examples of cast iron tubs on our best freestanding tubs review list. Cast iron tubs, much like cast iron cookware, are extremely heavy. But this weight is a trade-off for the extremely durability that only cast iron is capable of offering.
Finally, there are copper tubs. Copper tubs don’t offer any particular advantages when compared to the other two on this list. The main reason to get this kind of tub is because of how they look. If you are trying to make your bathroom look a certain way or fit into a certain style, then a copper tub might just be the perfect way to finish your perfect bathroom.
